What
can you do today?
by Indigo Irwin Kennedy
Lately, I have been reading
the book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People"
by Stephen R. Covey written back in 1989. One of the habits
that he talks about is our ineffective habit of reacting to
daily events.....in other words we become, if we are not careful,
"emergency driven". The phone rings we react, there
is a knock at the door and that sends us in one direction,
perhaps we have to fix something or pick someone up. Then
an email comes in and we feel the need to answer our friends.
All of a sudden the day is gone and what we feel in our lives
to be really important has not been nourished, nor attended.
Rarely do we take the time to
really determine (during our mid-wave cycle) what it is that
is really important in our lives. As Wave Riders, we are prone
to being pushed and pulled through our days by waves of emotional
energy...go high and we are doing everything; go low and we
don't want to do anything.
Stephen Covey (p147), suggests to be effecitve in your life
start by writing down the answers these questions:
Question 1: What one
thing could you do (you aren't doing now) that if you did
on a regular basis, would make tremendous positive difference
in your personal life?
Question 2: What one
thing in your business or professional life would bring you
similar results?
There was a second part to these
questions. Most of us, he pointed out do the "Urgent"
things each day, like answer the phone, fix the leak, get
a new photocopier, but we don't make sure that the "Important"
things get done each day.
I would like to reemphasize
the importance of being MID WAVE when you are analyzing what
you want in your life. If you are not then you will be analyzing
from either an overly optimistic or pessimistic view. When
we create in our lives we first what to be balanced with our
middle self. This is the self that really knows what you truly
enjoy in your life.
I think that these two question
are worthy of our time. Once you have answered the questions
write down how you can implement a few minutes each day on
something "important" rather than just the "urgent"
I hope that you will be able
to accomplish that which is "important to you" each
and every day.
Around the heart, past the mind
and into the soul.
Enjoy the journey
