Today's Gentle Reminder
If you were not raised in a house with a depressed parent then you will not remember back to days where coming home from school meant entering the dark and cold home where you never knew if your mom or dad has stayed in bed all day with no lights on anywhere in the house. There was no hot cocoa and no warm hug, only the intense fear of the unknown that lurked behind the doors to your home.
If you had parents like this then no matter how bad you felt, you would not do this to your children now. I know how difficult it can be to lift your face in a smile when you feel that you can no longer care about anything but you must try.

If you have kids and a spouse that have to come home to a dark and univiting house because you have shut yourself up in a room - Get up!-Get up!-Get up!....turn on a light and brighten up your space. Lift your face in a smile regardless of how difficult it may seem. Start to push yourself out of the
darkness....without guilt and self-abuse, accept nothing less from yourself this Christmas than the ability to turn on a light, clean a room and give a loved one a friendly welcome home. Your children do not understand what is going on and they need to know that you are there for them and that you are okay.

Your efforts no matter how small, will build self-confidence in your children much faster than a new gameboy ever will.

In the end, your efforts will give to you a gift back ...you will begin to feel better as well.
