Do you suffer from bouts of existentialist mind-set? That is, a complete flatness(possibly caused by lithium?), and loss of meaning in life, loss of God/ess spirituality - that its all illusion? I've been in this state for ages, trying to get out of it by joining volunteer courses in youth work, places where I may be useful. The energy is starting to budge, but I still have the feeling that its all bullshit! Anyone else experience this "phenomenon"? Julie |

RE: Feeling Flat for Julie Reply Posted: September 5, 2003 Hi Julie and readers... welcome to the discussion group. I have found that often people may not recognize themselves as Wave Riders, having periods of up (manic) and down (depressed) energy, because they feel that they are flat...lifeless without any periods of happiness and high energy. You are right that many medications can dull the upper level of energy and create a more monotone existence. This is often why people quit their medications. (WARNING: Never stop a medication without your doctor monitoring you because a fast stop can spiral you dangerously low.) I have also observed that many Wave Riders will become flat...forcing themselves to stay low because they are too frightened to go "up" again. They have found that all of there hopes and dreams that they saw when they were up only ended in disappointment and sadness again....so "why bother?" When we learn to monitor our own "up" period by breathing deeply and allowing the creativity to flow without the adrenaline pushing us out the door then we are able to keep the "up" without the down and we are also able to keep the up without making commitments to jobs, relationships, project etc. that we desired because of the adrenaline ride. When we choose from our real path rather than the upper ride we create a world around us that we can enjoy. This in turn stops the fear of the high ride. (Note: some high rides are extremely hard to control without some medication so work with a doctor that will listen to your desire to monitor your ride. not remove it.) I do not believe that we live in a hostile universe. I believe that the universe simply is, and that we are the ones that place labels on the world around us. I do believe that we have the choice to live our lives from faith, that there is enough love and abundance for all of us, or to live in fear that there will never be enough for me. It is our choosing the path of fear that creates a hostile world and our belief that abundance is for all that brings us together in harmony. You cannot chose for someone else, but you can start to form a line of light that begins to grow from you. It seems to me that is exactly what you are doing with your volunteer work...keep up the good work and keep moving in faith - it is the action that you take that will create the feeling and knowing that it is not illusion, will come. Flat Reply Posted: October 15, 2003 Hi, to everyone going through a still mood. Studying at the moment but finding it overwhelming. Procrastinate instead of using valuable time. Sleep to switch off and getting deeper into depression as less things get done. Studying has put other activities on hold, such as social. Hard to get started where I've left off. Assignment difficult, but I am capable of doing it. However, don't want to know about it. Feel useless and a burden and stuck in a rut, not knowing how to get going. Not happy. Any suggestions for moving slightly forward? Kat. |
